JENKELL

A Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters, Laurence JENKELL is a self‑taught French contemporary sculptor and painter, internationally renowned for her ‘Wrapping Bonbon’ sculptures.

Born on 31 December 1965, she lives and works on the Côte d’Azur and, in 2022, opened a studio‑gallery in Monaco to showcase her work.

She began her artistic research in the mid‑1990s, experimenting with various techniques that allowed her to master plexiglass and develop her own twisting technique. This “torsion” or “wrapping” consists of literally folding the material onto itself, echoing the twist of a wrapped sweet. Through this process, she created the Bonbon sculpture that would make her famous and become her artistic signature.

For nearly twenty years, Jenkell has sculpted brightly coloured candies in materials such as bronze, plexiglass, aluminium, marble, polyester, and Murano glass.

Driven by her imagination, the twist takes on its full meaning, and her works unfold within a cultural and conceptual framework: the Bonbon as a subject that combines simplicity and universality. With great freedom and determination, Laurence Jenkell continues her research and experimentation around torsion, developing new collections that enrich her repertoire of forms.
